Fur can be categorized as real fur or fake fur. It is important to learn on how to differentiate fake fur from real fur. It is very difficult to tell whether fur is real or fake just by visual examination or sense of touch. Many modifications can be done on real fur such as application of any rainbow colors dye and still fake fur can appear very real. Today’s fake fur has been designed to mimic real fur in many ways and by just touching you might not get the answer.
How Can You Differentiate A Real Fur From A Fake One?
There are various chemical tests that can be done to indicate whether fur is fake or real. Among the tests, the burn test seems to work the best. The basic principle of this test is that when fur is exposed to high temperatures, synthetic fibers will melt whereas the natural fibers will burn. Such a test won’t be done in a store but once the item is purchased and you are not sure of its authenticity. Only a few fibers are necessary to test. For real fur, the tip of the hair will burn and crumble away once touched and smell like human hair burning. The tip of the fake fur fiber will melt, curl up into a ball and will smell like unnatural chemicals.
Care For Your Fur
Furs require proper care so that you can get a long life from them. They should be worn and enjoyed with precautions. You can put on your fur by taking your hand inside it and lifting the shoulder of the coat off the hanger. You should avoid holding the front edge and pulling it off the hanger as this might open fur seams or the lining. You should undo the rings and bottom hooks before sitting and lift up the coat gently before you sit. This will ensure no stresses are exerted on the underarms when you are seated thus keeping them off tearing.
